The worldwide attention and excitement surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cups in 2010 in South Africa and 2011 in Germany offers an excellent opportunity for global learning. Football Unites aims to use this excitement to anchor developmental education in schools. Long term, the goal of Football Unites is to empower and encourage youth to build solidarity through active involvement in their own environments as well as the global society at large.

The special focus of Football Unites are young, disadvantaged high school students – exactly the group that is often most effected by the negative effects of globalization, but left out of developmental education approaches. In this context, football as a portal to learning is especially useful.
